Hello, My name is Courtney and I am the new kinesiologist at Deep Physio:) I am a CSEP personal trainer, FMS certified and specialize in Women’s Health. Here at Deep, women’s health is a focus on rehabilitating, strengthening, and maintaining all aspects of the body, with an emphasis on the effects of pregnancy. Whether you are planning to have a child, are early post-partum or many years post-partum and want to build or regain your strength, I am happy to say we have the professionals to help you. I am a Post Natal Fitness Specialist, who works alongside with the physiotherapists to help women who are experiencing back pain, pelvic pain, and other matters that can arise before or, more specifically, after having a baby. Between the kinesiologists and personal trainers using the Functional Movement Systems to screen and the physiotherapists who can assess, we can provide you with correct and safe exercises to help strengthen these affected areas and get you back to do doing the daily tasks that may be challenging right now!

Have you noticed an increase in back, hip, or knee pain since you’ve had your child/children? After having my son, I was so overwhelmed with the information out there about what to do, what not to do and how to regain my strength after pregnancy. Some questions that, not only did I ask myself, but get asked all the time are, “What is Diastasis Recti?”, “How can I get back to functioning without pain?”, “What exercises should I be doing and what shouldn’t I be doing?” If these are questions that you have asked yourself (whether you have had a child or not), come into Deep Physio to find out. There has been a lot of research recently about how a body changes during pregnancy and during child birth. Because of this, there is a better understanding of what exercises should be avoided and how much you can still do to prepare your body before having a baby, as well as to help with a faster, safer recovery.

This research also relates to women who are 2, 10, even 15 years post-partum; some women may not notice any big changes in their bodies until many years down the road. These changes can vary from mild low back pain or knee pain, to incontinence or pelvic organ prolapse. No matter what the concern may be, there are many things you can do to help prevent symptoms from worsening and even progress to becoming pain free and symptom free. Do not hesitate to come in or email me any questions you may have! Our goal is to help reduce any pain or symptoms you may be experiencing, and to give you the education to maintain the progress that we can make. Be sure to come by or call to book an assessment and find out how we can help!
