What ICBC Covers in Your First 12 Weeks After a Crash — And How Deep Physio Supports Your Recovery

If you have been in a motor vehicle crash, it can be overwhelming to figure out what treatments you qualify for and how to get started. The good news is that ICBC provides automatic access to several health care services during your first 12 weeks of recovery. You do not need a referral to begin and you do not need to complete one type of treatment before starting another.

At Deep Physio, we offer three of ICBC’s approved recovery services
Physiotherapy
Kinesiology
Counselling

Each of these is a separate entitlement. This means you can start any one of them independently and you may use all three at the same time if recommended for your recovery.

Below is a clear breakdown of what you can expect.

Physiotherapy Entitlements

ICBC automatically approves up to 25 physiotherapy sessions in the first 12 weeks following your crash.

Your first visit includes an initial assessment and treatment. After that, your physiotherapist will continue to guide your recovery using hands on treatment, exercise prescription, and modalities targeted to your injuries.

Physiotherapy is usually one of the first appointments people book because it helps reduce pain, improves mobility, and supports your safe return to daily tasks and work.

Kinesiology Entitlements

Kinesiology is also a separate approved ICBC service. You do not need to complete physiotherapy first and you do not need a referral.

Kinesiologists focus on movement, strength, function, and guided exercise. Many patients benefit from beginning kinesiology early in their recovery because it helps rebuild stability and confidence in movement.

At Deep Physio, kinesiology is an important part of our multidisciplinary approach to rehab. Your plan may include both physio and kinesiology or kinesiology alone depending on your needs.

Counselling Entitlements

Counselling is also covered by ICBC as an independent entitlement.

Motor vehicle crashes can impact both physical and emotional health. Counselling can support you if you are experiencing changes in sleep, anxiety, stress, overwhelm, difficulty returning to driving, or emotional symptoms related to the accident.

You can begin counselling at any time in your early recovery or combine it with physio and kinesiology if needed.

Your Responsibilities as a Patient

  • Attend scheduled appointments
  • Complete home exercises when provided
  • Give 24 hour notice for cancellations
  • Provide accurate information to their therapist

Consistent participation helps your recovery progress faster and ensures continued coverage.
